Here at sweetgreen's Automation Team, we're at the forefront of
restaurant automation. Our meal assembly automation - the Infinite
Kitchen (IK) - operates daily at several of our sweetgreen
locations across the country, but we are just getting started. The
Automation Team is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to play a key
role in expanding the deployment of Infinite Kitchens. What you'll
do: You will support all of Sweetgreen's manufacturing operations
for the Infinite Kitchen (IK), primarily onsite at the contract
manufacturing (assembly) facility for the IK in Westborough, MA.
You will report to the Sr. Technical Lead, Manufacturing.
- Provide engineering support as-needed to execute design
changes, deviations, and reworks, to resolve manufacturing issues
and clear blockers to our production schedule.
- Initiate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Create redlines to part and assembly drawings, and implement
edits as-needed to 3D and 2D CAD files.
- Work with key stakeholders at contract manufacturers for the IK
to ensure that the planning of procurement and assembly activities
supports Sweetgreen's business needs.
- Improve the assembly process for the Infinite Kitchen:
- You will have ownership to propose, test, and implement
assembly process changes that improve the throughput and
reliability of IK manufacturing.
- You will design, prototype, and implement mechanical jigs and
fixtures to achieve the above.
- Work with stakeholders in quality engineering to define
requirements and processes for incoming material inspection.
- Support component-level Design For Manufacture (DFM) efforts by
proposing changes to the Design Engineering Team and supporting
validation and implementation. Who you are:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical, Industrial, or
Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in hardware R&D or manufacturing,
and at least 2 years as a Manufacturing Engineer with an emphasis
on the assembly and testing of complex, large-format industrial
equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standard instruments and
practices used to inspect mechanical components.
- Extensive familiarity with commonly used fabrication processes
including CNC Machining, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal
fabrication, Wire/Cable, Welding, Casting, Printed Circuit Board
fabrication and assembly.
- Extensive familiarity with enterprise product change management
tools (PDM & PLM), and industry-standard change control (ECO)
processes.
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD software tools, Solidworks
preferred.
- Familiarity with standards of mechanical documentation
including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME
Y14.5.
- Meticulous attention to detail and ability to create and
maintain polished documentation. Location: Full-time In-Person: 75%
based at Sweetgreen's Contract Assembly Manufacturing location in
Westborough, MA, up to 25% based at Sweetgreen's Boston Automation
office in Charlestown, MA. Up to 10% travel. What you'll get:
